About

I’ve been making up stories since before I knew how to write—I recruited neighbors and family members to write for me. The first “serious stories” (read: stories for an audience) that I wrote and finished were pokémon fan fiction when I was twelve. I was heavily involved with fan communities for six years or so. The immediacy and frenzy of peer review in fan communities were as responsible for sharpening my skills and giving me a thick skin as the creative writing classes I took in college. I think writing fan fiction is beneficial for anyone: it means writing practice with an eager audience and it’s a way to critically engage with pop culture rather than passively consuming.

I write pokemon fanfic with a realist/survivalist take and an emphasis on relationships between humans and nature. My trainers all start traveling at 18--I figure running around the wilderness with magical monsters is at least as dangerous as buying cigarettes or joining the army.

When I'm not writing I'm illustrating, teaching art, teaching teens at the library how to play all kinds of board games, and GMing tabletop RPGs. Read: I'm a professional nerd mentor. Talk to me about climate change or your favorite kind of soup.

You can find me on AO3 & FFN.
